Course: Chemistry

Topic: Quantitative and Qualitative, Accuracy and Precision

 

NGSS:

C.PM.1: Atomic structure, Evolution of atomic models/theory
C.PM.2: Periodic Table
 

Objectives:

Differentiate between Quantitative (numerical) and Qualitative (non-numerical) observations.

Differentiate between the Accuracy and precision of measurements.

 

Vocabulary:

 Quantitative, Qualitative, Accuracy the correctness of a measurement and Precision the reproducibility of measurements.

 

Student:

Student will use Physical and Chemical properties to identify differences between qualitative and quantitative observations. 

Student will learn to tell the difference between the accuracy and precision of numbers.

Teacher:

The teacher will use notes and dart board to identify the differences between accurate and precise measurements.  In preparation for the Physical and Chemical Property Lab the teacher will discuss both qualitative and quantitative measurements.

  

Resources:

 Qual/QUant notes and practice worksheets need copied.

Accuracy/Precision notes and practice worksheets need copied.

  

Evaluation:

Physical and Chemical Properties Lab will allow students to demonstrate their understanding of the differences between qualitative and quantitative properties.
