Topic:

Lighting and Adjusting Burners. Cutting, Polishing and Bending Glass.

 

 NGSS/OSS:

C.PM.1: Atomic structure , Evolution of atomic models/theory

  

Objectives:

Learn to set up, light and adjust burners. Learn to cut glass with a triangular file, break, polish and bend glass.

 

Vocabulary:

Name of all lab and safety equipment that will be in use.

 

Student:

The student will learn to safely light and adjust a burner. They will cut apiece of glass tubing, fire polish the ends and place a 90 degree bend in the tube without closing the tube.  

 

Teacher:

The teacher will demonstrate lighting and adjusting a burner. The teacher will demonstrate cutting, polishing and bending glass tubing.  

 

Resources:

Burners, glass, triangular files and hot handling tools 

 

Evaluation:

Formative assessment will be taken throughout the day watching student performance and regulating the products that they produce.

Teacher will evaluate and grade the student performance on both the paper and lab practical portion of the Lab Quiz at a later date.
